From Kemet to Kimmett: Why Afrofuturism Needs Legacy, Not Just Technology

Afrofuturism without legacy is just science fiction with a different face.

The Empire of Kimmett series was built on a different premise: that the future of Black civilization is inseparable from its past. That ancient Kemet wasn't a starting point — it was a continuation. That the technology, the architecture, the philosophy, and the power of those civilizations didn't disappear. It went somewhere.

In this essay, I talk about the research, the vision, and the responsibility behind building the Empire of Kimmett world — and why legacy has to be at the center of any Afrofuturist story worth telling.
